All to Play for in the Super Seniors, Lady Drivers & Subaru Cup
The 3rd of our look at battles yet to be won on the final round of the SRC.
The Haddo Energy Super Seniors award is unique in that all 8 rounds count towards eligible competitors’ final score. The prize – a foreign holiday for 4 – is therefore still within the grasp of 4 drivers. Theoretically at least, as 2 of the 4 will not be contesting the final round.
So, it comes down to a straight fight between current leader Alistair Brearley Snr – who missed both the Scottish and the Grampian due to Covid – and Yorkshire legend Steve Bannister who – despite retiring on the Hills – is just 1 point back after joining the series from Round 3 onwards.
The scrap for the Lady Drivers title has raged all season. Initially between the Fiesta R200 of reigning Champion Ashleigh Morris and the Evo 9 of Aileen Forrest but both have faltered over the last couple of rounds where Meghan O’Kane’s increased pace has resulted in taking 2 maximum scores in her Fiesta ST and bringing her into contention.
Unfortunately, Ashleigh’s damaging off on the penultimate stage of the Hills while leading the category means she’s unable to defend her title on the final round. Aileen only needs 8 points to guarantee the title but with the replacement Evo retiring on the Hills with engine issues, it could be a nerve-wracking end to the season.
It’s a winner takes all contest in the Five Star Vehicle Deliveries Subaru Cup. Mike Moates has what looks like a healthy lead over Orrin McDonnell, but the latter has been on a roll since the 4th round, and a 4th maximum score would give him the title.
